This is part of a catechism study we're doing on Sunday mornings.
What is God?
God is Spirit. He is the
creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is infinite,
eternal, and unchangeable, in His being, wisdom, power, holiness,
justice, goodness and truth. Nothing happens except through Him and by
His will.
- John 4:24 ESV - "24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.""
- Job 11:7 ESV - "7 "Can you find out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limit of the Almighty?"
- Psalms 90:2 ESV - "2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God."
- 1 Timothy 1:17 ESV - "17 To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen."
- James 1:17 ESV - "17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."
- Exodus 3:14 ESV - "14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And he said, "Say this to the people of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'""
- Psalms 147:5 ESV - "5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure."
- Revelation 4:8 ESV - "8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!""
- Exodus 34:6-7 ESV - "6 The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.""
- Psalms 86:8-10, 15 ESV - "8 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. 9 All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. 10 For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. ... 15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness."
BREAKDOWN
He is-->
Spirit
"This
is one of the first, the greatest, the most sublime, and necessary
truths in the compass of nature! There is a God, the cause of all things
- the fountain of all perfection - without parts or dimensions, for he
is Eternal - filling the heavens and the earth - pervading, governing,
and upholding all things: for he is an infinite Spirit!" - Adam Clarke
"By
this is meant that God is without a body; that he is not material or
composed of parts; that he is invisible, in every place, pure and holy.
This is one of the first truths of religion, and one of the sublimest
ever presented to the mind of man. Almost all nations have had some idea
of God as gross or material, but the Bible declares that he is a pure
spirit. As he is such a spirit, he dwells not in temples made with
hands Act 7:48,
neither is worshipped with men’s hands as though he needed anything,
seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things, Act 17:25.
A pure, a holy, a spiritual worship, therefore, is such as he seeks -
the offering of the soul rather than the formal offering of the body -
the homage of the heart rather than that of the lips." - Albert Barnes

He determines and directs everything.
SUMMARY
He
is not man, nor subjected to the minds or constraints of men. He is
beyond us. He created and sustains all that is. He is always perfect,
almighty, just, good, true, and God. All is subjected to His will.
We must remember, He is... everything.
Not everything is God as new age spiritualism will try and convince
you. No. We all belong to Him. I'm not God. You're not God. But Praise
The Lord... God is God.
PRAYER
I
most humbly beseech thee, teach me to adore all thy ways, though I
cannot comprehend them; teach me to be glad that thou art king, and to
give thee thanks for all things that befall me; seeing thou hast chosen
that for me, and hast thereby 'set to thy seal that they are good.' And
for that which is to come, give me thy grace to do in all things what
pleaseth thee; and then, with an absolute submission to thy wisdom, to
leave the issues of them in thy hand.- John Wesley
