PONDERING... Sons of Light

John 12:34-36  So the crowd answered him, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"  35  So Jesus said to them, "The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.  36  While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.

The crowd misunderstands what the Bible teaches about the Messiah remaining forever, missing the spiritual and eternal implications. Jesus responds to this indirectly, pointing them back to Himself. He is the light. He tells them not to miss out on that, but to walk in the light while they still have Him. They have misunderstood the Scriptures, but the Word of God is standing right in front of them. He calls them not to stumble in disbelief, but to follow in obedience that they might become sons of light

In my personal experience, children act like their parents. I see myself, to the dismay of many, in my kiddos. When Jesus tells the crowd to become sons of the light, He is referring to salvation (by which we are adopted as sons). By implication, this also refers to the effect it should have on our lives. Like my kids, we are to reflect Him. Reflecting His humility, His purpose, His process, His love...etc.
