PONDERING... You are a Sinner. Stop it. (1 John 1:5-2:2)

(BRIEF NOTES)

You are a Sinner. Stop it.
Truth Point Two: Jesus is Perfectly Good
Truth Point Three: We Aren't/ We're Sinners
Transformation Point One: Christians Serve a New Master/ Sin No Longer Enslaves

SCRIPTURE: 1 John 1:5-2:2
GIST: Truth Point Two: Jesus is perfectly good and transforms His sinners saved by Grace.

1 John 1:5-2:2 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.  6  If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.  7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.  8  If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  10  If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.  2:1  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.  2  He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

God is Good, All the Time. All the Time, God is Good.
This is a fundamental Christian truth.

Let’s look at the two sides of the primary objection to this claim. If God is all good, and He created everything, why is there sin in the world?

1- Can a good God allow evil?
Evil does not disprove God.
A- Evil results from sin. We have to define evil here. Evil is “wrong”. Thus, we have to consider the source of morality argument.
B- Thus, God has allowed us to experience the natural byproduct of our sinful lives. Everything else is Grace.

2-Can a good God create evil?
A- God created us with the ability to sin which, of course, seems basically the same. Remember, sin is disobeying God. Why would He do this? Did He know what would happen? Yes. But here’s the deal. Everything is part of God’s plan to reveal Himself and save us. God is perfectly good. Thus, His plan to do this is the perfect one, as well. We can’t judge that.

We Are Sinners V8, 10

The Result of our sin is death Romans 6:23
We serve a New Master
This transformation is the result of the previous two truths. Because God is holy and we are not, saved people will no longer serve sin, but follow the image of the sinless Savior.
1. No more sin? Is it defining your life? Closer to God further from sin. V6-7a, 2:1
The expectation is life in the light. However, we will not ever live fully pure lives. YET, there should be a progression.

The closer we move toward God, the farther we are from sin. THUS, there will be a marked decrease.

2. It's the result of Him. This is the KEY (Vs 7b, 9, 2:1b-2).
We do none of this on our own. HE saves. HE transforms.
