PONDERING.. Are We Praying Boldly? (Mark 11:22-23)

Are We Praying Boldly? (PM Lesson Outline)
GIST: Prayer is powerful and forgiveness is at its heart.
SCRIPTURE: Mark 11:22-23
22 And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Tonight, we’re going to pray. It’s been my desire to start each month like this, but special services and weather have prevented it from happening lately. Therefore, I definitely didn’t want to miss out on it again. Let’s just make two quick observations before we do.

1. Prayer is powerful. Jesus isn’t giving us a recipe for getting whatever we want here. We’ve talked about this many times before. We come to Him submitting to His will. However, He is reminding us that prayer is powerful. We don’t mumble meaningless words. We’re speaking to the Almighty God who works all things according to His purpose. Pray with humility, but pray boldly. He may tell you no. That’s fine. He may tell you yes. Either way, when you come to Him and really pray (not just saying words with your eyes closed☺), He will answer your prayer.

2. Forgiveness is at the heart of prayer. The only reason we can pray is because we’ve been forgiven. If we continue to live unforgiving lives, should we expect to be heard when we pray?
