PONDERING... The Best News Ever (Christmas Program 2018)

The Best News Ever (Christmas Program 2018)
Opening Words. Recently, the Christian band, MercyMe, released a song entitled “The Best News Ever”. Frequently, we refer to the message of Jesus’ salvation as the good news, because it is! However, this song emphasizes this by saying it’s not just good; it’s literally the best news we could ever hear. And that news is what we’re here to celebrate tonight.
I’m excited about tonight because we have an opportunity to come together with these awesome children and tell this most important of stories. This Jesus, who came as a baby, was God in human flesh. He didn’t have to come, but chose to...for us. We’re sinners, destined for Hell, so we need a Savior. We need someone to rescue us. He’s that someone. He faced temptations and trials just like us, but lived without sin. Then, He died on the cross and took on Hell for us. Yet, He did not stay dead, but rose again, and if we confess our sin and need for His salvation and give Him control of our lives, we will be saved from our wretchedness and enjoy eternal life with Him. That’s truly, the best news ever. We need a savior, and He has come!
Let’s pray, and then we’ll turn it over to the children.
Candlelight Closing. This truly is the best news ever. Jesus came into our darkness and provided us light. We were without hope, and He provided us life!
This candlelight closing always gets to me because it hammers home why we’re here. This world is trapped in darkness. Sin has a grip on all our hearts, and everywhere we turn, we see its effects. Yet, there is light in this dark world, and that light is Jesus. The baby born in a manger. The innocent man rejected by those He came to save. The savior who rose from the grave. Our hope. Our salvation. He is the light of the world. In Him, there is no darkness at all! And when we give Him control of our lives, that light penetrates our hearts. We, in turn, go out proclaiming that light to those around us. When they hear and believe, they too experience this transformation. I’m going to light this candle here, join me by passing the light to the person next to you.
You want to see this world changed? Let the light of Jesus shine through you!
Let’s sing “Silent Night”, then we’ll close in prayer.
