PONDERING... Where Is Your Treasure? (Matthew 6:19-21)

VIDEO
Where Is Your Treasure? (AM Devotion)
GIST: Only Jesus is worth your time.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:19-21
Today we had the awesome blessing of hearing from the Mahler family about how God is using them as campus missionaries. They’ve been our friends for some time now, and when I was thinking about them this week, Matthew 6:19-21 came to mind. Don’t worry, I’m not going to preach a separate sermon here, but I do want to close today with these thoughts.

"19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

When I think about how God has used this family. I think about their priorities. As long as I’ve known Brandon, he’s been a passionate Cardinals fan. Working for that organization was his dream, and he landed a job with them after college. BUT, he left that because he knew God was calling his family to campus missions. What we give our time and energy to: that’s our treasure! That’s where our heart is! We will worship something in this life. If it’s not Jesus that you’re giving your all, what is it? This verse is super convicting. If we lay up our treasure here, if we invest our lives in the things of this world (family, careers, money, material objects...Netflix), we’re investing in things that won’t last forever and things that cannot carry the weight of our deepest need. You need Jesus. Is He your treasure this morning? How much of a priority is He in your life? Because here’s the deal: you won’t distance yourself from the things you love. If He’s you’re everything, you’ll be deliberate about the time you give Him and the way you seek His face. If He’s not, He’ll be a second thought. He’ll be what you go to when you don’t have anything else going on.
Jesus told us to take up our crosses daily and follow Him. Let’s pray that that’s our heart today.
