PONDERING... Since no one can keep the law, what is its purpose?

Since no one can keep the law, what is its purpose?
That we may know the holy nature and will of God, and the sinful nature and disobedience of our hearts; and thus our need of a Savior. The law also teaches and exhorts us to live a life worthy of our Savior.
  • Romans 3:20-25 ESV - "20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it-- 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins."

That we may know the holy nature (of God)
The law points to God's standard. The source of morality. Apart from the holy Holy law giver, where does morality come from?

(That we may know the) will of God,
As we speak frequently of in class, it reveals God's purpose. He desires that we obey the law because, in His love, He know what is best for us.

(That we may know) the sinful nature and disobedience of our hearts;
Seeing this standard, shows our failure to live up to it.

and thus (that we may know) our need of a Savior.
Which reveals our need for Jesus--who did live up to it for us.

The law also teaches and exhorts us to live a life worthy of our Savior.
Yep. John 14:15 "“If you love me, you will keep my commandments."
