PONDERING... Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished?

This is part of a catechism study we're doing on Sunday mornings.
These two are connected.

Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished?
No, every sin is against the sovereignty, holiness, and goodness of God, and against His righteous law, and God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them in His just judgment both in this life, and in the life to come.
  • Ephesians 5:5-6 ESV - "5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience."
  • Psalms 11:6-7 ESV - "6 Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face."
GIST: Because God is holy, all sin (which we all commit) must be punished.

Are all transgressions of the law equally heinous?
Though all unrepented sin leads to death, some sins in themselves, and by reason of various aggravations are more heinous in the sight of God than others.
  • John 19:11 ESV - "11 Jesus answered him, "You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.""
  • 1 John 5:15-17 ESV - "15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life--to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death."
  • Matthew 12:31-32 ESV - "31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."
GIST: This question is worth knowing, but not worth debate. At the end of the day, the primary truth is this: All unrepented sin, no matter how heinous, leads to Hell. Period.
